On 80 rugged acres of once-logged land in Washington State, Navy veteran Jake Maslin. is bringing a neglected forest back to life and restoring his own sense of purpose in the process.

After years in the military and fast-paced civilian careers, Jake was searching for something more rooted. Although he grew up around agriculture, he never expected to return to it. But farming gave him a new mission. It offered purpose beyond profit, a way to serve his community, heal the land, and create something lasting for future generations.
Through his agritourism project, Jake is building a regenerative farm that honors both the land’s wild beauty and its potential to nourish others. His long-term vision includes rotational grazing, food forests, and immersive, hands-on educational opportunities that reconnect people to the earth and their food systems.
Thanks to the Dauntless Veteran Foundation Agriculture Grant Program, Jake was able to install essential perimeter fencing around the property. This upgrade marks a critical next step. With the fencing in place, the farm can now safely introduce livestock, a core element of its regenerative model. The fencing also protects guests, supports land restoration, and strengthens overall operations.
“This grant gave me the momentum I needed to keep pushing forward,” Jake shared. “Every bit of support makes a difference.”
As a self-funded, veteran-owned startup, the grant has helped turn a former logging site into a growing ecosystem and eco-tourism destination built with care, determination, and a deep respect for nature.
The Dauntless Veteran Foundation is proud to support veterans like Jake who continue to serve through stewardship and sustainable agriculture.
